The Belgian Embassy in Moscow has officially announced its readiness to begin issuing tourist visas to Russians again. A key condition for resuming the issuance of Schengen visas is increasing the staff of the diplomatic mission, which was significantly reduced in 2022.
According to the representation of the kingdom, the current staffing resources are insufficient to process applications for all categories, including tourism. Diplomats emphasize that the suspension is not a political sanction against Russian citizens, but a technical necessity caused by the decision of the Russian authorities to declare 21 embassy employees persona non grata.
"We hope to find a solution and resume the full operation of the visa department, including accepting applications for Schengen visas to Belgium," the diplomatic mission noted.
Recall that the mutual expulsion of diplomats occurred against the backdrop of the special military operation in Ukraine. At that time, Russia, in response to similar steps by Brussels, demanded that 12 Belgian diplomats leave the country.
An increase in demand for Belgian visa applications is expected following this news. Against this backdrop, other Schengen countries, such as Slovakia, have already resumed issuing tourist visas to Russians. Slovakia's visa centers in Moscow and St. Petersburg are already accepting documents.
