On January 9, 2017, the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed the decree on the establishment of a visa-free regime for the citizens of 80 foreign countries. It was reported by the presidential press service.
"The document establishes visa-free entry to Belarus for a period of not more than five days at the entrance through the border checkpoint Minsk National Airport for the citizens of 80 countries," - the document says. The decree applies to 39 countries in Europe, including the entire European Union, as well as Brazil, Indonesia, USA and Japan.
"First of all, these countries are favorable in migration terms, they are the strategic partners of Belarus, the states that have established a visa-free regime unilaterally for Belarusian citizens", - press-service says. The decree also applies to "non-citizens of Latvia and persons without citizenship of Estonia".
The document is aimed at enhancing traveling of "businessmen, tourists, individuals with regular passports, and will not be applied to foreigners engaged in official travel: diplomatic, service, special and other equivalent passports will not be accepted".
For the citizens of Vietnam, Haiti, Gambia, Honduras, India, China, Lebanon, Namibia, Samoa the compulsory additional requirement is the valid multiple visa of the EU member states or the Schengen area with a mark on the entry into their territory, as well as tickets confirming their arrival from Minsk National airport within 5 days from the date of entry.
As noted in the document, the established order of visa-free travel, is not applied to persons coming to Belarus by flights from Russia and intending to fly to the airports of Russia (these flights are internal, and border control is not carried out). The decree will come into force one month after its official publication.
