The mutual visa-free regime between Russia and China came into effect on December 1, 2025. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
The new rules allow citizens of the People's Republic of China to enter Russia and stay on its territory without a visa for up to 30 days. The basis for entry is an ordinary passport of a citizen of the PRC.
The visa-free procedure applies to the following purposes of visit:
• Tourism and sightseeing;
• Business trips (negotiations, meetings);
• Private visits to friends and relatives;
• Participation in cultural, scientific, and sporting events;
• Transit through the territory of the Russian Federation.
It is important to note that the visa-free regime does not apply to other types of trips. A visa will still be required for those planning to work, including journalistic activities, to study at Russian universities, or to reside in Russia. The same applies to drivers on international routes and accredited journalists.
The decree came into force on the date of its signing, December 1, 2025.
The simplified regime will be in effect until September 14, 2026.
We remind you that earlier China introduced a visa-free regime for Russian citizens starting September 15, 2025 (details in our previous news).
