At the moment, foreign students receive Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) in Russia on a general basis within the quotas established by the Russian government, the validity of which they must renew every year. Once the law is adopted, students will be able to obtain a TRP for the Purpose of Education (TRE) separately from other applications. Such permission will be issued for the period of study, as well as the next 180 days, if there is confirmation of enrollment in the university and study under the program.
This regime will apply when transferring to another university, and will also allow you not to be deregistered when leaving Russia, for example, on vacation.
Also, according to the amendments, foreign students with a TRE no longer need to confirm the fact of proficiency in Russian, knowledge of the Russian history and fundamentals of the legislation, as well as submit an annual notification confirming residence.
