The entry and exit system (EES) is an automated electronic system for registering foreign citizens entering the EU for a short-term stay, regardless of whether they are eligible for visa-free entry or not.
This system will eliminate the need for stamps in passports on border crossing - all information (name and surname of the tourist, type and number of the travel document and visa, biometric data, date and place of entry and exit from the EU, refusals to cross the border) will be recorded and stored in the system.
Earlier, several media platforms announced that November 10 would be the launch date of the EES, but the official confirmation of the date of its implementation first occurred on 19.08.2024
The main goals of the introduction of the new system were both the modernization of border control and the strengthening of control and prevention of illegal migration, including those trying to enter the EU with forged documents.
