On October 25, 2018, the State Duma adopted in first reading a draft law providing for granting to President authority to determine for humanitarian purposes the categories of foreign citizens who have right to obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner.
The bill was submitted to the State Duma in order to improve the procedure for admission to citizenship of Russia. The bill also provides for simplification of procedure for participants in state program for resettlement to Russia of compatriots living abroad. If participant in state program received a permit for temporary residence in Russia or a residence permit, then he will be able to apply for citizenship in a simplified manner, in particular, at place of residence in the region chosen for residence.
