On February 12, 2020, the State Duma adopted in the second reading two bills - on recognition by native speakers of the Russian language without an interview of citizens of Belarus and Ukraine who are fluent in Russian; and on a single term for consideration of applications for admission to the citizenship of Russia in a simplified manner.
In accordance with bill No. 819170-7, citizens of Belarus and Ukraine can be recognized as native Russian speakers without being interviewed by a special commission if these persons or their direct relatives permanently reside or previously resided permanently in the territory of Russia or in the territory belonging to the Russian Empire or USSR. A native speaker of Russian can obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner.
Bill No. 814817-7 provides for a reduction from 6 to 3 months in the period for consideration of applications for admission to the citizenship of the Russian Federation in a simplified manner if an application is filed in Russia. For persons residing outside of Russia, the period for consideration of applications is six months.
