On December 22, 2015, the State Duma adopted a law under which citizens of Belarus are no longer required to take an exam on Russian language and history in order to obtain a temporary residence permit or a residence permit in Russia
The explanatory note of the draft law states that it was prepared in order to free the citizens of Belarus, "from the obligation to confirm their Russian language skills and knowledge of Russian history and law as one of the conditions for obtaining a temporary residence permit or residence permit in Russia".
