To obtain a driver's license, you will need to submit an application, present a Russian or South Ossetian passport, as well as a valid local driver's license. No state fee will be charged.
The government has been instructed to adjust Russian legislation to recognize driver's licenses issued in South Ossetia.
Earlier, on March 27, Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia Dmitry Zverev reported that Russia is negotiating the mutual recognition of driver's licenses with a number of countries, including China. This will simplify private car trips between the countries.
Recall that from April 1, 2025, foreign citizens who have received a residence permit or citizenship in Russia must exchange their foreign driver's license for a Russian license. An exception was previously made for citizens of the Republic of Belarus, and a little later, by decree of the President of Russia, citizens of Abkhazia were also included in the exceptions.
