The draft law proposes to make the following changes:
1) extend the period of residence in Russia on the basis of a residence permit, necessary for filing an application for acquisition of citizenship in the general manner, from 5 years to 8 years;
2) extend the period of residence in Russia on the basis of a temporary residence permit from one year to 2 years;
Thus, in order to have the right to apply for Russian citizenship in general manner, a foreign citizen must have lived in the country for at least 10 years.
3) to obtain citizenship in a simplified manner based on the presence of a child - a citizen of Russia living in Russia, it is proposed to add a condition that such a child must live in Russia for at least 5 years (that is, the child himself can be at least 5 years old);
4) to obtain citizenship in a simplified manner on the basis of marriage with a Russian citizen with common children, it is proposed to add conditions that such a marriage must last at least 3 years by the time the application for citizenship is submitted, and the common child must be a minor;
5) in order to obtain citizenship in a simplified manner on the basis of service in the Russian Armed Forces, it is proposed to extend the period of service required for this from one year to 2 years.
According to the explanatory note, the draft law is aimed at limiting the possibility of acquiring Russian citizenship on fictitious grounds.
