On July 29, 2019 the Law on unlimited period of stay in Russia for citizen of South Ossetia has come into force.
The Protocol on changes of stay for citizens of Russia and South Ossetia has been preliminary signed on August 18, 2015. The initial regime proposed that citizens of South Ossetia could stay in Russia up to 90 days within the period of 180 days, which is equal to the rules for citizens of visa-free countries.
