Previously, foreigners entering the service in the Russian Armed Forces for the first time on the basis of a contract for the positions of soldiers, sailors, sergeants and foremen could conclude a contract for a period of at least 5 years.
On September 30, 2022, the President of Russia signed a decree on the admission to Russian citizenship of foreigners who have signed contracts for military service in Russia in a simplified manner, bypassing the stage of obtaining a TRP and residence permit, which we wrote about in our news. According to the decree, foreign citizens have the right to apply for Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure, provided that they conclude a contract for military service in the Russian Armed Forces for a period of at least one year and who took part in hostilities in this capacity for at least six months.
Also, earlier there were reports in the media that the Russian Ministry of Defense is developing a legal mechanism for continuing service in the Russian Armed Forces for foreign contract soldiers.
