The press centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that in accordance with the Presidential Decree No 274 dated 18 April 2020 foreign nationals who are in Russia in violation of the order of stay established by the migration legislation are given the opportunity to settle their legal status without sanctions.
However, this measure is only valid until 15 June 2021.
That is why, at the plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Gorovoi said that after the specified date, citizens illegally staying in the country "will be punished, up to and including expulsion and closure of borders". In addition, Alexander Gorovoy appealed to the representatives of the CIS countries to carry out propaganda work with illegal migrants, who are on the territory of Russia. According to him, this is needed to prevent their deportation, Kommersant reports.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs on 16.04.2021 at the session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the following numbers of migrants are illegally present on Russian territory:
- over 332,000 citizens of Uzbekistan;
