The authors of the draft law were the Spravedlivaya Rossiya (A Just Russia) faction, and they are proposed to make the following changes to the law on Russian citizenship:
- supplement the list of grounds for termination of acquired Russian citizenship with aiding and abetting in the commission of crimes, including those of a terrorist and extremist nature;
- it is proposed to abolish the statute of limitations that applies to the deprivation of Russian citizenship acquired on the basis of forged or invalid documents (currently it is 10 years); they want to make the norm for termination of citizenship on these grounds indefinite in time;
- it is proposed to deprive citizenship also of relatives of persons who received citizenship on the basis of forged or invalid documents, who acquired citizenship in a simplified manner after these persons.
According to the explanatory note, the innovation proposed by the draft law on the indefiniteness of the grounds for deprivation of citizenship of persons who have provided a fake certificate of knowledge of the Russian language, history and fundamentals of legislation will greatly contribute to the establishment of the legal field in the field of migration policy. In addition, following the fate of a relative who illegally received Russian citizenship will help resolve the problem with the influx of non-Russian-speaking migrants who pose a real threat to public safety in Russia.
