On April 4, 2022, the Decree of the President of Russia on retaliatory visa measures in connection with the unfriendly actions of foreign states came into force.
By this decree, he suspended the following agreements:
- "Agreement between the Government of Russia and the EU on the facilitation of issuing visas to citizens of Russia and the EU dated May 25, 2006";
- “Agreement between Russia and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway on the facilitation of issuing visas to citizens…”;
- “Agreement between the government of Russia and the government of the Kingdom of Denmark on visa facilitation…”;
- "Agreement between the Government of Russia and the Government of Iceland on the facilitation of visa issuance..";
- “Agreement between the Government of Russia and the Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation on visa facilitation…”;
- “Agreement between the Government of Russia and the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein on the simplification of the procedure for issuing visas…”.
This suspension means that now foreign political figures, diplomats and journalists are required to obtain a visa to Russia on a general basis.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, needs to introduce personal restrictions on entry into Russia and stay in Russia for foreign citizens and stateless persons who commit unfriendly actions against Russia, its citizens or legal entities.
