On 5th of March, 2025 The President of the Russian Federation proposed to update approaches to legal regulation in the migration sphere. During his speech at a meeting with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vladimir Putin emphasized that in order to effectively address the tasks facing the ministry, it is necessary to:
- to suppress channels of illegal migration;
- actively apply modern instruments of migration control.
One of the important areas of focus is the transition to electronic mechanisms for authorization of migrants. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and other specialized services have been instructed to study the possibility of abandoning paper migration cards and switching to an electronic system of registration.
The President of the Russian Federation additionally proposed to expand the already existing support measures for the return of compatriots to Russia. These mechanisms should be focused on those who share traditional Russian values, who want to live and work in our country, and who have the necessary qualifications or education demanded by the economy. All the above initiatives should be reflected in the new Migration Policy Concept to be adopted in 2025.
