The agreement on visa cancellation for holders of ordinary passports, signed in autumn 2025, officially takes effect on January 27, 2026.
Conditions for visa-free entry
Citizens of both countries can visit Russia or Myanmar without obtaining a visa if the purpose of the visit is tourism, a private visit, or a business trip (not for employment).
Stay duration under the new rules:
• Maximum duration of a single visit: 30 days.
• Total time per year: no more than 90 days within each calendar year.
When is a visa still required?
The visa-free regime does not apply to long-term purposes. Obtaining a visa remains mandatory for:
• Official employment.
• Enrollment in educational institutions.
• Obtaining a permanent residence permit.
Russians already had the possibility of visa-free entry to Myanmar. Since July 2022, a special simplified procedure, renewed annually, has been in effect for them. It allowed stays in the country for up to 30 days when entering through major international airports.
The key change in the new agreement is reciprocity. Now citizens of Myanmar can also enter under the same conditions without visas, whereas previously they required visa documentation to visit Russia.
