Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the Seventh World Congress of Russian Compatriots, said that an initiative was being worked out under which children from mixed marriages would receive Russian citizenship regardless of the family's country of residence. The implementation of this initiative is part of the support for Russian citizens abroad.
At the moment, children born in mixed marriages of citizens of Russia and citizens of other countries can obtain Russian citizenship regardless of their place of residence, but not automatically. To do this, a parent of a child who has Russian citizenship can apply with a corresponding application at his/her place of residence or at the place of residence of the child.
