From August 1, 2022, Latvia will suspend the agreement with Russia, which simplifies travel for residents of border regions

Latvia will suspend the agreement with Russia on the facilitation of travel between residents of border regions from August 1, 2022, TASS reports with reference to the Latvian portal. Such an agreement was concluded in 2010 to facilitate the travel of residents of the border regions of Latvia and Russia - these residents received special permission from the consulate of a neighboring country.

However, in fact, citizens of Russia could not obtain such permission since May 2022 - it could be obtained at the Latvian Consulate in Pskov, but it was closed together with the Consulate General in St. Petersburg as part of the Russian response after the expulsion of 13 Russian diplomats from Latvia and the closure consulates of Russia in Liepaja and Daugavpils.
