On February 6, 2016 the Agreement between the Government of Russia and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the simplification of the conditions of mutual trips for certain categories of Russian citizens and the citizens of Islamic Republic of Iran came into force.
The intergovernmental agreement was signed on November 23, 2015 in Tehran after the meeting of the two presidents, Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani.
Starting from February 6, the easier procedure for obtaining Russian and Iranian visas to business representatives, participants of scientific, cultural and artistic activities, teachers, students and tourists was introduced.
According to the adviser of Iran's supreme leader on international affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, who was in Moscow for working visit on 1-4 February, "the abolition of tourist visas to Russia is being considered in Tehran."
Moreover, Velayati points on coming possibility of business visas termination.
