According to the head of the German Ministry of Internal Affairs Nancy Feser, Germany will simplify the procedure for obtaining a visa to Germany for Russians who, due to criticism of the authorities, “are subjected to harassment and threats”, ZDF reports.
These persons are opposition figures, NGO workers, human rights activists and journalists, including those who are “at particular risk due to ties with Germany,” and those who were included in the register of foreign agents.
As part of this innovation, it is proposed to reduce the bureaucratic procedures for obtaining a residence permit, as well as extend the period of stay from 90 days, which is now allowed on a Schengen visa, to a longer one.
According to Spiegel the procedure will include verification by the German security authorities. This procedure has not yet been described in more detail.
Also in early May, the German authorities relaxed visa requirements for IT specialists from Russia. At the same time, it was about those Russians who already worked for German companies and earned at least 44 thousand euros a year.
