On 2 April 2025, Presidential Decree No. 205 dated 02.04.2025 "On Improving State Administration in the Field of Migration" was published. This decree establishes the Service for Citizenship and Registration of Foreign Nationals within the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The new division will be headed by the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
According to the decree, the reorganization of the migration control system aims to:
• improve the efficiency of migration process management;
• strengthen interagency coordination;
• ensure compliance by foreign nationals with Russian legislation.
Special attention will be given to combating violations in the migration sphere and optimizing citizenship procedures. The ministry notes that the creation of a specialized service will help systematize work with migrants and speed up the processing of related requests.
