Repatriates will also be able to obtain a residence permit in Russia in a simplified manner

On April 2, 2024, a draft law amending the Federal Law on the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in Russia 115-FZ and the Law on Entry and Exit to Russia was adopted in the first reading. The draft law proposes to provide a residence permit in Russia in a simplified manner (without first obtaining a temporary residence permit) also to foreign repatriate citizens who have received the status of a participant in the state program to assist the voluntary resettlement of compatriots to Russia. It is proposed to provide the same benefits to family members of repatriates.

An application for a residence permit, according to the draft law, can be submitted to a diplomatic mission or consular office of Russia in the state to which the application for participation in the State Program for Assistance to the Voluntary Resettlement of Compatriots was submitted. It will be possible to obtain a residence permit at the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia selected for resettlement within the framework of the State Program for Assistance to Voluntary Resettlement, after passing mandatory state fingerprint registration and submitting documents confirming a medical check-up.
