Electronic visa to Russia

Since August 1^st, 2023 an electronic visa for entry into Russia for foreign citizens has been introduced, which has significantly simplified the process of entry into Russia. Now a foreign citizen only needs to fill out a form on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pay a consular fee and receive a visa by e-mail. 

However, an electronic visa to Russia has both advantages and disadvantages. 

Advantages of an electronic visa for entry into Russia:

1.  The processing time for such visa is 4 calendar days.
2.  The visa is issued electronically, without the need to visit the Russian Consulate.
3.  No need to provide information about the purpose of the trip to Russia, it is enough to fill in the necessary information when filling out the visa application form. 

At the same time, there are a number of disadvantages when obtaining an electronic visa to enter into Russia:

1.  The permitted period of stay is 16 days within the validity period of the visa, which is 60 days.
2.  Multiplicity of the visa: single entry.
3.  Possibility of crossing the border only through certain checkpoints across the State Border of Russia.
4.  It is possible to pay the consular fee for a visa only with international bank cards of the international payment systems Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay. It is not possible to pay the consular fee with bank cards of Russian banks or the MIR card payment system.

An electronic visa gives the right to enter and stay in Russia on a guest or business visit, as a tourist, as well as to participate in scientific, cultural, political, economic, sports events and to establish relevant connections and contacts. 

1.  Passport*, which is used to enter Russia and cross Russian border + a photo of the passport page with the identification data in JPEG format.
2.  A digital photo of the applicant's face in JPEG format that meets the requirements specified on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3.  A medical insurance policy valid in Russia for the entire period of stay in the country.

An electronic visa provides an excellent opportunity to come to Russia for a short period of time with minimal time hassle.
