The government of Russia has adopted Resolution No. 467 of April 27, 2026, which increases the temporary stay period on the territory of Russia for professional drivers fr om CIS countries and Georgia to a total of 180 days within one calendar year.
Who is affected by the new rules
The changes apply to citizens of CIS member states, as well as citizens of Georgia, who work as professional drivers engaged in international road haulage.
Previously, the temporary stay period for this category of foreign nationals was 90 days per year. Increasing the lim it to 180 days is intended to simplify the work of international carriers and reduce costs for transport companies.
How to take advantage of the new rule
To qualify for the extended stay period, a driver must submit, in accordance with the established procedure, an application for entry into Russia and stay (residence) on the country’s territory. The application must be submitted electronically using the mobile app of the public services portal (RuID).
The application must be accompanied by copies of identity documents and documents confirming the driver’s professional activity in international transport.
When the changes take effect
Russian Government Resolution No. 467 comes into force on June 30, 2026. Until that date, the previous temporary stay rules for foreign long-haul truckers remain in effect.
Context behind the decision
The issue of extending the stay period was discussed multiple times at the Eurasian Economic Commission. In 2025, international road haulers - citizens of EAEU member states - faced difficulties carrying out their professional activities on Russian territory. The reduction of the temporary stay period to 90 days per year led to higher costs for transport companies. The measures adopted are aimed at promptly resolving this issue.
