Despite the removing of COVID restrictions, visa-free stay of Russian citizens in China is currently possible only in transit zones
Despite the removal by China of most COVID-19 restrictions, the resumption of the issuance of all types of visas to Russian citizens from March 15, 2023 and of the agreement between Russia and China on visa-free travel for tourist groups, not all of the immigration rules that were in force before the COVID-19 epidemic were renewed. In particular, the programs of the authorities of a number of regions of China, which were in force before the COVID-19 pandemic, allowed foreign citizens to stay visa-free for 72 or 144 hours in the territory of China with the possibility of exiting the transit zone of the airport (for example, it was possible to stay in Beijing without a visa for 144 hours, in Chengdu - 72 hours), until now they have not become valid again.
Transit travel of citizens of Russia through the territory of China is possible only if they stay inside the transit zone of the airport for no more than 24 hours. In all other cases, an appropriate visa is required.
